JAKARTA, KalderaNews.com - In order to increase US business investment into Indonesia, Directorate of America I, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Consulate General of New York, held a National Investment Seminar "How to Attract Investors from US Investor Perspective”.

The seminar was attended by 16 US investors, related industries, as well as business actors and domestic business actors, including the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) and the Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO).

The Seminar was held in particular to explore the views of US investors'preferences on investment sectors in Indonesia as well as to exchange ideas and experiences on investing in Indonesia, including from regulation aspect. The seminar is expected to advance the confidence and interest of US investors to boost investment in priority sectors,such as infrastructure.

Through opening remarks, Acting Director General for America and Europe, Ratu Silvy Gayatri stated that currently Indonesia has obtained the title of "Investment Grade" from three international rating agencies and made a significant leap in the Ease of Doing Business Index from 114th in 2015 to 72 in 2017.

The significant progress is supported by the conducive situation of domestic politics and security and the ongoing efforts of the government to provide an investment-friendly legal framework. In addition to the Seminar, the 16 US investors visited various regions of Indonesia, such as Bali, D.I. Yogyakarta, East Java, and West Java.

During the visit, Investors from the US delivered a commitment to help priority development programs in various regions. In a meeting with Governor of D.I. Yogyakarta, for instance, US investors are keen to be involved in international standard hospital construction projects and other healthcare facilities.

Strengthening bilateral economic relations, including investment, is declared by the two Heads of State during the visit of the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, in October 2015.

The commitment was reinforced during the visit of US Vice President, Mike Pence to Indonesia, in April 2017. Seminars and series of US penanam modal visits during Indonesia are held in preparation for the "Roadmap on Trade, Tourism and Investment" to be held in New York, USA, in August 2018. (JS)
