Indonesia Need More Than 5000 Professional Logisticians Per Year

BANDUNG, KalderaNews.com - On Friday 31st of August 2018, Faculty of Industrial Technology of Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and Shipping and Transport College (STC Group) invited several prominent logistic leaders from government, academia and the logistic sector to celebrate the establishment of a bachelor’s degree in logistics at ITB, the first ITB Logistics Education Advisory Board and the launch of ITB’s Logistics laboratory. ITB and STC have been collaborating in strengthening education and research capacity in the logistics sector in Indonesia, supported by the Netherlands Initiative for Capacity development in Higher Education (NICHE).

The Netherlands Initiative for Capacity development in Higher Education (NICHE) is a Netherlands-funded development cooperation programme. By strengthening higher education and technical and vocation education and pelatihan (TVET) capacity in partner countries NICHE contributes to economic development and poverty reduction.

Started in 2014 with full funding from the Dutch government, the project has brought together partners from the Netherlands and Indonesia, with Nuffic as the coordinating agency and a consortium of implementing partners consisting of ITB, STC Group, Delft University of Technology, Eindhoven University of Technology, Erasmus University Rotterdam.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Deddy Kurniadi, the Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Technology – ITB, said “we are very pleased with the establishment of a bachelor’s degree in Logistics at FIT-ITB, because there is an obvious need for formal education in logistics”.

Prof. Senator Nur Bahagia who conducted a presentation about the project said: to increase the logistic performance in Indonesia, our estimation is that we need more than 5000 professional logisticians per year”.

Melcher Klink, Senior Policy Advisor in Economics of the Netherlands Embassy to Indonesia said: “without Logistics an economy will not roll. Therefore, promoting this study acara will be essential to make Logistics attractive”.

Nanya Burki the Head of Development and Partnerships added on behalf of Nuffic Neso Indonesia: “It is expected that the bachelor’s degree in logistics ensures the provision of well-educated and qualified human resources in Logistics, who will play a significant role in improving the logistic performance in Indonesia”.

Mr. Albert Bos, Director of STC Group concluded with the following closing remarks “we are very satisfied with the successful outcomes of this project and we hope that we can continue our intensive collaboration in the future”. (JS)
